Welcome to Darlajune.com! Thank you for visiting.
Hi! My name is Darla June Yow Franklin. This is my personal blog where I like to post about my faith, family, friends, events, and travel. I also use this blog to ramble about random thoughts. Medical issues are often the topic here as well.
I grew up in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, then came to Illinois during my junior year of High School. I have lived in Illinois for 45 years. My only claim to fame is that I went to High School in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, with Rush Limbaugh! However, he and I never met and I had no idea that we had attended school together…..can you believe that? We know some former classmates in common but we did not run in the same circles. Rush’s family was wealthy (lawyers), my family were poor (hillbillies, construction workers, restaurant workers, factory workers). He lived in an upscale neighborhood; I lived on the “wrong side of town”. His friends were well thought of, my friends were termed “hoods”. So, nothing in common between me and Rush except the town we grew up in and some of the teachers and classmates we both knew.
When I attended May Greene Grade School in Cape, there was a boy named Danny Pierce who also attended there. He looked “exactly” like Alfalfa from The Little Rascals. Of course our classmates teased us about our names “Alfalfa & Darla” kissing in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G. He and I never kissed anywhere, much less in a tree but they thought it was funny. I didn’t enjoy their comedy then, but now 50 yrs later, it makes me laugh. Thus, the header picture on this blog of Darla & Alfalfa staring at each other with those “puppy-love” eyes seemed perfectly appropriate.
I have 4 wonderful children, all grown now. Two of them live in the same town, one lives a 2 hour drive away, and one lives a 20 min. drive away. I am very blessed.
I have other blogs for other purposes but this one is just personal, ordinary life….here in Middle America, amongst the corn fields and hog farms.
I welcome any and all readers, both known and unknown. I may hit on one of your pet subjects occasionally. Please visit again and leave a comment if you feel the urge. You may also contact me at darlayow@gmail.com
